A Great Man, A Worthy Memorial This website is dedicated to creating a memorial in memory of Major Larry J. Bauguess, Jr., who was a positive role model, student, and baseball player in Wilkes Central High School's class of 1989, as well as a devoted father, husband, son, brother and friend. Our mission is to come together as a community to honor Larry's memory by naming the baseball field at Wilkes Central High School after Larry and erecting a monument in his honor there. In order to do this, an endowment fund has been started to allow the field; once named in his honor, to be maintained and improved upon for the future. An endowment will also be established to award scholarships to one male and one female student at WCHS that exhibits the core character traits which were embodied by Major Bauguess and that are encouraged in all of our students by the Wilkes County School System: Responsibility, Respect, Self Discipline, Kindness, Good Judgment, Perseverance, Courage, and Integrity. Please explore this website to learn more about Larry, his love of baseball, and his accomplishments. Time will not dim the glory of his deeds. |

Recent News: A Big Win! The MLJB Memorial recently won theWilkes Community Foundation raffle $10,000 grand prize on June 28th. After 6 members of our executive committee bought 3 tickets at $100 a piece, our ticket was the one remaining in the pot at the end of the night. It was nothing short of miraculous. The entire $10,000 will go towards the endowment fund, to help accomplish our 3 main goals to help maintain the field, to erect a worthy memorial, and to help students with scholarships. However, we're a long way from our fund being self-sustaining, so your donations are still so important to acheiving our goals. Thank you to the Wilkes Community Foundation, the North Carolina Community Foundation, and for everyone who purchased a ticket. |
