First Annual Baseball Tournament a Winning Success for the Eagles The Wilkes Central Eagles won the first Annual Major Larry J. Bauguess, Jr. Memorial Baseball Tournament which took place on April 11th, 2009. The participating teams were the Elkin High Bucking Elks, the Statesville High Greyhounds, and Forsyth Country Day Furies. All four baseball games had to be played on Saturday due to rain on Friday the 10th. But the weather was a sunny and warm day. Perfect for the games, silent auction and face painting. The championship game was played between Forsyth Country Day and Wilkes Central and ended with a nail-biting finish at nearly 11pm that evening. To further add to the drama, a coach from Forsyth Country Day became ill and the paramedics attended to him before giving him the "all clear" and allowing play to continue. We wish to thank the Wilkes Central Athletic Boosters, Athletic Director Mark Horton, Coach Terry Johnson, Principal Steve Moree, and most of all, the visiting coaches and players that have made this tournament possible. See you next year! |
Silent Auction Results During the Baseball Tournament, sports memorabilia items were on viewing for silent auction bidding. Autographed baseballs, t-shirts, photos and more were all waiting for your bid. The highest valued item was a baseball signed by the late, great Thurmon Munson. We are very grateful to the donor who made such an amazing piece of history available to us. All together, the auction earned over $2000 - enough to cover the first two scholarships for the spring. We are thankful to all the bidders for making this auction a fun and exciting event. If you wish to donate sports items for our silent auction at next year's tournament, please contact us to discuss your support. |
